A lot of people are at OppiKoppi this weekend, which is great– I’m super jelly! But I was thinking that I want to do something comparably cool. So there are a few things I have thought of, besides the usual Joburg activities.
1) The Boere Mark
This is a farmers market that starts at farmer time, 5:30 AM–no Jokes. But in order to fully appreciate it, you have to see the Romance in the whole adventure… driving a little further for fresh produce, all cold and wintery dressed in a cosy scarf and beanie ready for some home-made hot chocolate. So I’m excited! It is on Saturday mornings, you can find it off Pretoria street in Silverton.
I was so lucky to win tickets from emmajanenation and Decorex to the Joburg show! I have never been before, but I have a love-affair for decor and design so this opportunity is not taken for granted. I am excited to get new design ideas for my house, and hopefully some DIY inspiration!
3) A day in Parys
A different but really great idea. Parys is a small town bordering the Free state and the NW province, about an hour out of Joburg. The town has one main street filled with antique stores and cafes. The town has some sweet secret because most stores sell old-school sweeties that take me back to my childhood. I really recommend having breakfast at Hoi Polloi. It is a vintage themed restaurant that serves food excellently, and really affordably too. I had eggs florentine (for R44) and earl grey tea served in a silver tea pot and vintage tea-cup and saucer. Was pretty amazing. You can explore the antique stores and eat sweets!
4) The Vaal river Meander wine route
A tasting expeience of SA’s finest wine all only the river. Find out more here. I have only just discovered its existence, but it sounds quite cool.
5) See a different part of Joburg that you haven’t experienced yet and have been wanting to!
