Joburg facilitates my romances for food and meals shared with others. A culture I adore. This is something I don’t often to get to share, so today I am going to divulge into my great love of food with you.
Food is the lifeblood of my day. I wake up hungry, ready to start my day with a big scrumptious breakfast. Being full is very much a temporary experience. Food, well, food is just great. The more I learn, cook and enjoy the more I care about it. Eating is an important part of our daily lives, but is often marginalised as a necessity that can be completed quickly. I beg to differ, a meal whether alone or with a group of people should be welcomed as an important moment.
Food is important to me. What I love most about it is the culture associated with it. I love to be in a space filled with other faces, over a meal, friendships form and strengthen while smiles abide. I believe in the ample-meal, where it starts small and grows into a feast that partners with a good few glasses of wine, and a hot drink and something sweet to end it off. This culture of eating should not be limited by time, but enjoyed as if the night was endless.
Joburg is an amazing city for food culture, because it is a social space where food forms a huge component of the activities. I am almost certain that the Gauteng region consumes most of the wines from the Western province. Joburgers seem to have a huge appreciation for wine, especially because wine farms are not a next door suburb. Working in a café has only contributed to my passion for eating with others. So much is shared over a meal, from good news, laughs and first introductions. So many important moments are celebrated with a meal. We welcome in defining moments when we sit down and share a meal with others. We shouldn’t restrict ourselves from fully enjoying the extent of what sharing a meal can provide.
In ode to food and great cuisine, I am going to share some of my meals with you (all of which are on instagram @laurenkateloves). These meals where taken at my usual favourites: Warm & Glad, Burnsides Café and Leopard.
